A well-known hotel chain used an early version of the EGA Automation platform to rebuild its Wi-Fi networks and connect them to new ADSL Broadband circuits, all while maintaining uninterrupted connectivity for guests.
Challenge
A well-known hotel chain needed to rebuild and modernise the Wi-Fi networks used by guests and visitors across more than 700 properties. Traditionally, this work required an engineer to be physically on-site with a laptop and a network connection. Rebuilding each Wi-Fi network and connecting it to new ADSL broadband circuits was estimated to take at least six months.
The engineer would need to manually enter large amounts of configuration data to set up a minimum of four devices per site; typically two switches, one firewall, and one router. This manual approach would take several hours per site and carried a high risk of human error.
The solution
Using an early version of the EGA Automation platform, we automated the remote configuration of every network device across all 700 hotel sites. Work that previously required an engineer on-site for around four hours (plus travel time) was now completed remotely in just 30 minutes per site.
To deliver this automation at scale, the team leveraged a combination of technologies, including:
EGA Automation · Ansible · Cisco · Zyxel · Juniper · MikroTik
Results
- All 700 hotel locations were fully deployed in just two months, a fraction of the original six-month estimate.
- Guest Wi-Fi disruption was kept to an absolute minimum, ensuring a smooth and seamless upgrade.
- Guests were able to enjoy the benefits of a faster, more reliable Wi-Fi network much sooner than expected.
