EGATalentStack | Getting to know AB
Meet Abolore (aka AB), EGA Tech’s Scrum Master who turns teamwork, tech and automation into pure delivery magic, as part of our #EGATalentStack series where we feature the people behind EGA Tech.
Q1. What is your current role within EGA Tech and what do you enjoy most about it?
I’m currently a Scrum Master at EGA Tech, where I focus on enabling teams to work effectively by removing blockers, communicating with stakeholders and continuously improving on how we deliver value for our clients across our sprints.
What I enjoy most is seeing how our team works so well together: we help one another and we self-organise sprint after sprint to deliver real customer value. It’s very fulfilling to always see how the team solves real problems (using tech and automation) that benefit our customers.
Q2. How did you get started in the tech / DevOps / Automation industry?
While I’ve always been curious and fascinated by tech, my journey into this industry really took off during my service year [mandatory one-year National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme] when two of my friends (one a product manager and the other a software engineer), would often talk about how cool it was to work on tech projects.
I really wanted to know how these systems and products worked; how they were designed and built behind the scenes. So from there, I joined a bootcamp, took up courses, and got hands-on experience with tech projects (mobile and web apps) and also projects where automation wasn’t just a “nice to have” but the only way to keep things efficient and scalable. I’m super grateful for being at EGA today. Trying to keep a long story short – lol.
Q3. What’s your favourite productivity tool or hack?
My best hack is simply daily prioritisation. Every day, I make a short list on my notepad outlining the 2-3 things that I need to do that will move the needle that day. Everything else is kept as secondary. However, actual productivity tools that I use are Monday.dev, a host of Google Suite tools (docs, sheet, slide etc) and ChatGPT.
Q4. Let’s pretend that you are an AI. Which new skill would you teach yourself in an instance?
I’d instantly learn advanced data storytelling and visualisation, the ability to transform complex data into simple, compelling narratives. That way, I could empower teams and stakeholders to make faster, better-informed decisions without getting stuck in endless spreadsheets.
Q5. What advice would you give to someone who’s just starting their journey in automation/tech?
Don’t jump straight to writing code. Be curious enough to ask questions first, to do your research and understand how you need a strong foundation in problem-solving and adaptability. Also, ask for help from your teammates (you’d be surprised how much you can achieve with a team that is willing to help) because learning is so much faster (and less overwhelming) when you’re not doing it alone.
Q6. What do you enjoy doing in your free time / what are your hobbies?
I enjoy watching tech youtube a lot (MKBHD, Mrwhosetheboss etc), I play adventure games and watch EPL a lot as well (Not going to name my fav team to avoid banter).
Q7. Finally, what’s your go-to comfort food?
Oatmeal or toasted bread.
